As a child, Phil was always exploring with friends, running through backyards, hopping fences, and riding bikes all over Kansas City. The only thing missing was a camera. Studying film at Columbia College Chicago, he became awakened by the craft of visual storytelling. The creative experience reminded him of youthful play. An internship with Dennis Manarchy showed him the fast-paced world of commercial film production. Eager for more experience, he moved to NYC where received an MFA in Photography from the School of Visual Arts. He then began shooting food, most notably for the New York Times. Next was Austin, where he assisted and traveled with the brilliant Dan Winters, a fortunate experience that prepared him with the necessary tools to explore the craft of photography. Phil Kline is now a commercial and editorial photographer who shoots portraits and still life. Conceptual humor is not only seen in the work but also displayed in his on set spirit. He’s just fun to work with!
